Alishia Drahota is 36 years old, a wife and a mother, and a dedicated CrossFit athlete. She’s excited about what’s happening at Hotova CrossFit and what’s happening with her body. Her enthusiasm is contagious.
“It’s something to look forward to every day,” the Buffalo woman said of her weekly WOD schedule. Many Hotova members get a chance to work out with Drahota, as she divides her workout time typically between the 9 a.m. class and the 6:30 p.m. class, but she also occasionally hits a 6:30 a.m. class. She said it just depends on what works with the household schedule. In between those WODs, she is posting on social media, sharing her feelings on heading into the gym: “feeling blessed” or “feeling excited.”
The coaches get excited when someone like Drahota makes a commitment to fitness, jumping in with both feet and still going strong one year after signing up. “She’s making great gains, but the greatest thing is her attitude,” said owner-coach Giane Tonev. “A class full of Alishias would be so much fun!”
Drahota sends the love right back. “All the coaches are an inspiration,” she said. “I love the way they push you to succceed and challenge yourself to do better.” Alishia said the challenging fitness programming combined with the family-like atmosphere is what really makes Hotova work for her. She appreciates the support of other members and looks forward to continuing to cultivate friendships. It’s something Hotova folks hear a lot, but no one ever tires of it. The strength is in the community.
Alishia is finding new strength within herself, and has set some great, personal CrossFit goals. She said she aims to be able to do a muscle-up. As she works toward that goal, Alishia is also pushing her body all the way around, building endurance and strength and just “generally becoming healthier.” The gains come in many ways, and the coaches are joining with Drahota in celebrating wellness. “I have more muscle gain, I’m becoming leaner, I feel healthier, and I’m not tired all the time!” she cheered.
